The Furniture

Thursday, June 28th, 2007

My parents decided to get us a new bedroom set for birthday/mother’s day/father’s day. So we ordered it this past weekend and they were to deliver it yesterday. On Sunday they called and said it would be about 3-4 weeks on the bed because it was damaged and they had to wait for a new one to be shipped from the manufacturer. So ok, at least they aren’t delivering something that is damaged.

Anyway, I went home early yesterday because our furniture was supposed to be delivered between 3:30 and 6:00 pm. Around 3pm, they called and said it would be closer to 6:30/7pm before they arrived. At 7:30 I called and had them check on the delivery guys. I was told it would be another hour because they were running behind. Finally a little after 9pm they showed up with our stuff. So we now have new bedroom furniture minus the bed. And it’s a sleigh bed. woohoo! I can’t wait for it to get here so we can have the complete set.

We were in desperate need of a new set. The old headboard was metal and cheap. We picked it up when we moved in together 6 years ago. The chest and nightstand were cheap particle board we got from a friend and one of the drawers is broken. The dresser is the one I had in high school! And I’m 32! Holy crap. Yeah, we were due for something new and matching.

It looks so awesome in the room. I finally feel like we have a grown-up, “parents” bedroom. If that makes any sense. Can you tell I’m totally loving it already and we’ve only had it since 9pm last night?

Sicklies and Cleaning Up Mess

Friday, June 22nd, 2007

Our dog has bronchitis! WTF! She’s been hacking up slime almost all week all over the kitchen/dining room floor. It’s the grossest thing ever. I can handle the poop and the pee, but this stuff is plain gross. I cleaned up a lot this morning when I first got up, then less than 2 hours later, I had to clean up a bunch more before we headed out the door. GROSS!

Then to top it off, Amelia leaked through her diaper last night so she smelled like urine. I had to bathe her, so I stripped her down and set her on the floor on a towel in the bathroom while I got her bath water ready. We have a tiny bathroom, and yet somehow, she managed to crawl off the towel onto the only 2 sq inches of actual floor space and proceeded to pee. I picked her up off the floor to put her in the bath and she was sitting in it. No protests or anything either. UGH! Poor thing.

I think she’s got some allergies too, because her eyes have been gunky and she’s all congested. I’ve got to go get some Benadryl and see if that helps.

Testing Flock

Friday, June 15th, 2007

Ok, so I’m testing out Flock. I use Flickr a lot and I like the integration with del.icio.us and the ability to easily do blog posts. It seems to work a lot like Firefox and a lot of the FF extensions are available for Flock, so it may become a new thing for me. Yes, I recently switched over to Camino but I’m trying out all solutions to see which is best for me. Got to give them all a try.

If this works out well, I will be moving my quicklinks back over to del.icio.us. Heck I may do that anyway, just so they are in a central repository.

Cables in the Wall - It’s Unheard Off!

Friday, June 8th, 2007

I don’t remember my father cutting any holes in the walls when running new cable except where he wanted the cable to come out to the plate.

This is a house probably built around the same time that my current house was built. So why is it that cable companies insist on going through the closets. To me, cables hanging in the closet is almost as tacky as they are hanging in the room itself. Why can’t they go through the wall?

We called the cable company to come out and install a new cable outlet in our living room. The guy comes out and says, oh, well drop it down in your closet and run it through the wall to the other side, trying to make me think I won’t see the cable. Duh! It’s hanging in the closet. My closet, that I use everyday. Of course I’m going to see it. Heck this is something we can do. The reason we called was because we wanted it run through the wall.

I just don’t understand the big deal. My dad used to do it all the time. Speaker wires, tv cable, etc. I remember yelling to him up in the attic from the floor telling him I could hear the cable but couldn’t quite see it yet, then when I saw it, grabbing it and yelling that I got it.

I’ve never heard of cables going through the wall from one side to the other, till I got to this house and there were cables hanging in every closet. Yuck! Why have they gotten so sloppy with cable installation?
