Pretty Thumbnails

Wednesday, July 19th, 2006

OK, I’ve browsed many a blog and I am constantly seeing those pretty rectangular thumbnail images. Like 420×138 in size or something. But I’m not sure of an easy way to create these odd sized thumbnails.

Does anyone have an ideas how they do it?

Blog Switch

Wednesday, July 19th, 2006

I was attempting to switch to Wordpress, for several reason, but mainly because I like the pages feature…very easy to add new pages to your blog. I also like that I can assign more than two categories to a post. There are several other reasons but those are the primary ones.

I love the Textpattern Admin interface though…must more appealing than the one Wordpress has.

I don’t guess it matters though since I can’t seem to import my 4 years worth of posts from TXP to WP. I refuse to switch to Movable Type. Since their big change in structure and the move to 3.0, I haven’t liked the system…too complicated now to set up templates. So I guess I’m stuck here for now. Oh well.

I’m itching for a new structure, layout and design but I doubt it will happen. I just don’t have the desire to fool with it, even though I want it. Go figure.

So I don’t guess anything will change here for a while. Bah!

Not Enough Mac

Wednesday, July 12th, 2006

I don’t use my Mac enough. I would love to be able to use it as a primary machine, but as I’m a VB/.NET programmer, I spend the majority of my day on Windows using all Microsoft products. I would love a job where I work strictly on a Mac. I love my computer and wish I spent more time using it. I don’t know enough about it, because I just don’t spend enough time on it. But after being on a computer all day at work, I just don’t want to go home and get back on a computer regardless of the OS. So I end up spending more time on the PC at work and less time on the Mac at home.

.NET programming in VB doesn’t allow me to work on a Mac. But maybe someday I’ll have a job that requires me to work on a Mac instead of a PC.

My Mac

Monday, July 10th, 2006

I love my Mac. I wish I had a newer one though. My current Mac is an eMac that is about 2 years old. It only has a 40GB hard drive with less than 1/2 free space. I even have all my music and photos stored on an external drive because there isn’t enough space. So the only thing on the internal drive is the OS and applications. I would love to get a new iMac for several reasons…

1. It would take up less space on my desk. My eMac is huge. The new iMac would be a much smaller footprint, allowing me to have more space for my printer and scanner.

2. More hard drive space. I could finally use my home directory which would make things easier since everything defaults to those folders. I could use my external HD strictly for backup, which would be great. It would also probably help when running Photoshop. I think the Virtual Memory is an issue, even though I have 1GB of RAM. Photoshop slows down the whole machine when I run it.

3. Widescreen would be a nice feature to have when working in Photoshop. Much more room, especially when working with my 2-page scrapbook layouts.

OK, enough ranting on why I want a newer Mac. I will probably end up using my current eMac till it dies.

Prada/Shower

Monday, July 10th, 2006

Sunday, while DH was out playing disc golf with the guys, I went and saw The Devil Wears Prada. It was a pretty good movie. I was expecting more from it, but overall, I enjoyed it.

When I went to get my ticket, the lady said I was the first person of the day to NOT get a ticket to Pirates. But I was about 20 minutes early, so by the time the movie started a few more straglers had come in, making it somewhere around 15-20 people watching the movie with me. I picked a good weekend, since the crowd was so thin due to Pirates being released.

My message board thread had our Virtual Baby Shower yesterday also. It was pretty cool. Everyone opened their gifts at a certain time, then posted a picture of what they received. I got a Snugli Carrier. I’m looking forward to using it to carry Amelia. It will definitely save my arm strength I’m sure.
