Katrina Victims
My heart goes out to all those who lost family, homes and personal belongings because of Hurricane Katrina.
While I can’t donate food or money to help, our local shelters are also collecting clothing for evacuees. So I will be going through my closets pulling out stuff I don’t need to use and will be delivering it to our local shelters.
I also plan to look around our house for anything else that might be of use (games for the kids, blankets, etc). I hope everyone does the same. Many people have lost everything but the clothes on their backs and even those are ragged and torn. They will need anything and everything that we can give them. Contact your local shelters and Red Cross and ask what you can donate. Money isn’t the only need. Toiletries such as toothbrushes, toothpaste, deodorant, tampons, baby items, etc are also in desparate need. Even if you don’t live near the affected areas, I’m sure your local charities and shelters are probably coordinating with those in need and will be able to get your donations to where they need to go.
Here in Montgomery, AL gas is running out, hotels are full and shelters are also quickly filling up with people who have no where else to go. We all need to help each other in these time of need. Do what you can…even if it seems insignificant to you…it will mean the world to the person who needs it and receives it.
