DVD Burner

Tuesday, August 23rd, 2005

I have successfully installed a DVD Burner in my eMac computer. I’m so happy you have no idea. I also burned a music CD via iTunes and a DVD Backup of all my audiobooks (also via iTunes).

Hopefully, all future attempts at burning will be just as successful. I feel so much better knowing I can burn backups of my data again.

And it was so easy to install. It only took me about 30 minutes and I followed the wonderful instructions at MacWorld. I’m so glad I found this article or I would never have had the courage to try it.

Lazy Weekend

Monday, August 22nd, 2005

I had a pretty lazy weekend. We went out to Carrabba’s on Friday night, and I wonder if I got a little sick from the food. I spent all day Saturday in bed, with a sick stomach. It was a miz of upset and nauseated. I also got a headache that evening. I slept quite a bit too. Then I took my sleeping meds Saturday night and slept in on Sunday til 10:30! I felt much better on Sunday. Rested and no stomach problems. But I didn’t take my meds last night, so I didn’t sleep very good. I’m a little tired today.

My burner should be here tomorrow, so I plan to shut down and unplug my computer tonight to let the monitor dissipate before I start taking it apart.

This weekend we’re going to FL for a wedding (DH’s cousin). We leave Friday evening and will be back late on Monday.

This past week I’ve seen several movies…The Wedding Date with Debra Messing. Very good movie. I loved it. I also saw Fast Times at Ridgemont High. Just a little reminising into the 80s!

Testing

Thursday, August 18th, 2005

Testing a post via RapidMetaBlog from the Tiger Dashboard. I was going to try DashBlog, but it only supports the BloggerAPI, which means no categories. I have to have category support.

Update: Checking it in TXP in the browser, it did the same as w.bloggar originally did…it turned off comments for the entry. Not sure why, but I think this is a limitation on the MetaWeblog API. I fixed w.bloggar to work, by telling it to use the Movable Type API instead. But I can’t do this with the RapidMetaBlog widget. Oh well.

More upgrades

Thursday, August 18th, 2005

I’ve ordered a DVD burner for my Mac. Yep, it’s an internal, I got the Pioneer DVR-109, which was highly recommended as most compatible in the Apple Support Forums. I thought it would be a good upgrade and since I can’t burn CDs with my current burner, I might as well upgrade. Hopefully this will fix my problem. I think it will. If it doesn’t, then I know it isn’t a drive issue, but a software issue. But I’m not sure. The drive doesn’t respond when any application tries to write to it. It won’t get past the initialization step in iTunes. Finder and Disk Utility return an error saying the drive didn’t respond. I can’t wait for my burner to get here now. I downloaded the instructions on how to install the drive from MacWorld. Very simple, easy to follow instructions with pictures. Shouldn’t be too difficult. I’m not afraid of hardware work…I know Macs are different, but I’ve built several PCs over the years, so at least I’ve worked with computer hardware before.

I also got a new skin for my iPod. I wanted something a little slimmer than the ActionJacket I already have. So I got an iSkin eVo. I got the Artic color, so it blends in, rather than go outrageous and get some weird color, although I did like the blue. LOL!

Testing Remote Post

Tuesday, August 16th, 2005

I installed the latest version of Textpattern on my site and added the XML-RPC functionality. I did this to make it easier to post entries using photos I upload to Flickr. Not sure how well it will work. But I also installed w.bloggar to try it out. Will also try out the DashBlog from home if it is still available for download. So this post is a test of w.bloggar.

Work, bah!

Monday, August 15th, 2005

I’m getting so antsy here at work…I think it’s time I had a vacation…every day it gets harder and harder to concentrate on work and sit here all day.

Plus I haven’t been feeling too good this past weekend, and I didn’t sleep very good last night, so I’m extremely tired today.

But we did get some of the trim painted in the kitchen. We still have to finish putting the molding up and paint it, then put up the quarter-round at the base. We decided to do the countertops before we paint the door so maybe we can get a color that matches rather than a neutral color. And we are thinking of going with a green countertop that has a similar pattern as the wallpaper.

Upgraded

Thursday, August 11th, 2005

I upgraded to Tiger last night and my computer is being quirky. Mail quit unexpectedly twice and Address Book quit once. I plan to repair permissions and run the maintenance on it and hope that helps.

Then I have to get to work. Importing my photos into iPhoto, organizing my fonts so they don’t get out of hand. I need to do a little organizing of my music and of course, download some widgets. :)

I really want to try out the Netflix one and I saw Minesweep and Tetris that I want to check out.

Mac Icons

Wednesday, August 10th, 2005

I wanted to change my HD icon on my desktop to something nicer than the default, so I found InterfaceLIFT. It has a bunch of cool icons for Mac and Windows.

The one I finally picked out is a little image of my eMac in an icon pack called iMac Generations and I thought it was perfect. What do you know…the creator’s last name is Albuquerque. That’s my maiden name.

Oh yeah…Tiger should be delivered today…Fedex Tracking shows it on the truck for delivery. Woohoo!

Moll

Tuesday, August 9th, 2005

A while back I was flipping channels and came across a pretty decent movie starring the british woman from ER. She was playing Moll Flanders. Since then, I’ve wanted to watch the whole movie.

Last night I did. It was a different version starring Robin Wright Penn and Morgan Freeman, but it was excellent. A great movie.

Kitchen Photos

Sunday, August 7th, 2005

Here are the before and after photos. The before was taken before we moved in. Since, we have put down tile on the floor, painted the cabinets, put up wallpaper, replaced outlets and switches, replaced the stove and hood, replaced the faucet and installed track lighting.

We still plan to replace the countertops, paint all the trim in white and paint the ceiling.

Kitchen - After

Oh, the hole you see in the cabinet is where we will be replacing the drawer that was missing. It used to be there, but apparently it broke while the previous owners lived there and they never bothered to replace it. They just glued the face of it to the cabinet. So my husband is supposed to be building me a new drawer to go in there. Hopefully he’ll get around to it soon. ;)
