Vacationing

Thursday, April 22nd, 2004

My vacations plans have been axed. I was planning to go to Texas to see my family while my husband is on a week-long canoe trip with his father and some other guys. But my boss has decided that that is when he’s going to take vacation. Since there is only the two of us in our department, that means I get to stay home by myself while everyone else is away. Then I thought fine, I’ll try to go to Texas some other time, but my parents are moving to Florida in July, so they are very busy with trying to pack and get things ready to move. Since my dad had to take disability while he was in the hospital in Florida, they are behind. With all that they’ve got going on right now, I’d rather not get in the middle of it all, so I will wait till they are settled in Florida before trying to spend a week with them.

I need to find somewhere else to go by myself, hopefully sometime in July or August. My husband can’t take too much time off and he’s getting to take his vacation this year. I’d take my sister with me but she’s in school plus she’s spending most of July in Spain (doing a semester abroad). I don’t have any close girlfriends that I could plan a vacation with, so I’m on my own with no where to go.

I’d like somewhere I can hang out and read books, knit and whatever else I feel like. I’d like some things to see wherever I go, but not a packed trip that would leave no time to breathe. And I can’t go to Europe…the hubby says I can’t go without him. This came up because I mentioned I’ll go to Spain and see my sister. He cried out, “NO! Not with out me.” So I have no idea where to take my vacation this year, but it keep looking more and more like I won’t get one.

Anyone got any suggestions on where I could go to read, knit and relax. Maybe see a few sights. Not too expensive either.

On Hiatus

This site is on hiatus while I update and migrate to Textpattern or Wordpress. Be back eventually. In the meantime visit my knitting blog. I haven’t yet decided if it will make the switch also. Till I decide, it will stay as is.

I just like the fact that neither of these require rebuilds. Hopefully I won’t be gone too long.

Another HI Weekend

Sunday, April 11th, 2004

We’ve spent another weekend doing Home Improvement. But it feels great to be getting done some of the things we’ve been saying we need to do. We put up the crown molding in the living room. So that room is finally complete. We can check it off our HI to-do list.

We bought the paint, hinges and doorknobs to do the kitchen cabinets. Of course we couldn’t find any cheap white knobs so we bought wooden ones. Yep, I have to paint 20 little knobs. But oh well. We are repainting the cabinets in white. The next step will be to replace the countertops, and peel the wallpaper so we can paint the walls. Then we’ll be done with the kitchen and can move onto the front bathroom.

We were talking about it yesterday and my hubby said, by the time we finish all home improvement, we’ll end up in a situation where we’ll move. Then we’ll have to start all over in a new house. Well, you know…that’s part of owning a home. But at least our house will be prettier when we decide to sell it.

My parents are finally going back home from their unexpected extended stay in Florida. Dad is doing great. His pacemaker is working overtime though. The doctors said that usually you have to change the battery around 10-12 years. Dad’s will most likely have to be changes around 8 years because it is working so hard. Apparently he really needed that pacemaker. His dizziness is much better. He saw an audiologist who did some things to his ears. He’s not sure what, but he said whatever they did worked, because he hasn’t been getting dizzy. I’m so glad he’s doing better. So they are coming up Wednesday and will stay with us for 2 days before heading on to Texas.

Is it Fall or Spring?

Wednesday, April 7th, 2004

Today really feels like the beginning of Fall instead of the start of Spring. It is chilly and gray, slightly overcast. I keep forgetting that we are in April. At least the weekends, so far, have been spring-y. Warm, sunny, great weather. Of course with days like today, it’s hard to get into knitting my tank top. There really isn’t much to say that isn’t related to my knitting or crochet. I’ve been posting there more than here. I didn’t want to mix the two sites, because I figured my regular visitors wouldn’t want to read all about knitting. If so, they can visit my knitting blog. But other than knitting, I haven’t really been doing anything else exciting.

I’d like to get an easy to use photo album software that is simple…nothing complex like 4images or Gallery. Something plain. I want to set it up so I can keep a gallery of my finished knitting projects. Any ideas? Hmm, maybe I’ll have to borrow some ideas from http://photojenic.ca Or tweak my current gallery scripts to fit my needs. That’s something else I can start working on. Better do it now while I only have 2 finished projects. :)

I’ve also been reading, but not as fast as I’d like. Lately the books I’ve been trying to read just haven’t been interesting to me. I think I’ve gone through 3 or 4 books that I just put down or pass on, because I can’t get into them. But I’m reading Nora Roberts right now and it’s pretty good. I’ve got plenty of books to chose from, so hopefully the next one I read will grab me like this current one has.

I’ve been worried about my maple tree. Remember the one we planted last summer? It hasn’t bloomed yet and I was starting to worry that the “bleeding” it did last fall had done it in. But I’m noticing more and more buds and some are actually starting to lighten up, like maybe the green will start showing. That gives me hope that it is just maybe taking it’s sweet time to bloom. All of our other plants are doing fine. But I feel as if the maple is my baby, even though it is about 10 feet tall now. When we planted it, it was just over 6 feet, so I know it’s grown some. I will be jumping up and down and telling the whole world, the minute I see a leaf appear. LOL! Of course I’ll have to post a photo for everyone to see my little baby blooming. :D

Weekend Summary

Monday, April 5th, 2004

My weekend was pretty good. We spent most of the weekend hanging out with the hubby’s cousin (SB) and her boyfriend. She and I went shopping for a rug and some table runners. She’s decorating and needed some accesories. Saturday night, we watched Radio. It was a really good movie and I think Cuba Gooding Jr did an excellent job. Ed Harris was great too. Sunday was extremely lazy. I did a bit of knitting and completed another square for my crochet afghan. I picked up a retractable measuring tape and it’s the best thing. Last night we watched Queen of the Damned since it just happened to be on. My hubby just spent most of the day sleeping. The time change had him all messed up.

Other than that I didn’t do much else. My SIL comes up Wednesday, but she’ll be busy all day Thursday and may be going home Friday so we won’t be spending much time with her while she’s here. She’s got a board meeting that she’s coming up for. Then DH’s aunt (SB’s mom) comes up Thursday and will be in town till Sunday so we may be spending some time with them this weekend.

Dad is doing much better but he still has to stay in Florida for a few more weeks. Oh and grandpa (Mom’s dad) gave us a scare this weekend. Apparently he and grandma got into a huge fight so he packed a bag and walked out. My mom’s cousin found him walking on the side of the street halfway across town! Needless to say, mom was a wreck and her blood pressure was out the roof. I haven’t gotten all the details but I think they worked everything out. Poor grandpa…he’s just had enough with that wife of his. She drives everyone crazy. It’s bad when all my cousins are calling up my parents and telling them not to stay with the grandparents while they are stuck in FL. My sister warned her boyfriend about my grandmother before they got down there and he thought she was just exagerating. She tends to go overboard a little. When he got here he got to see first hand just how infuriating my grandmother is and realized she was telling the truth about her.
