Happy New Year
Happy New Year to everyone. We had a great time in Florida with the hubby’s family. I even got to see my parents for a little while. It’s always an interesting time at the Bair family gatherings. This year, my husband’s aunt and uncle brought along 2 tibetan monks. They were fun to meet. They created art with sand and clay…beautiful pieces. I took pictures that I’ll post as soon as I get a chance, but I have no idea when that may be. One night we had 12 people playing Farkle with 2 sets of die going around. The linked page has one version. Our version uses 5 die instead of 6. It was great fun. We also got to make stuff out of wood. I made a spoon, a spatula and a walking stick. The walking stick was purely for the purpose of carving. I had so much fun with the spoon that I had to do something else with the knife.
My MIL got a puzzle for Christmas so my SIL and I set out to conquer it. Yes, conquer it. It was a photomosaic dolphin. We started the 26th and worked on it for about an hour. It took us till New Years’s Day to finish it. My husband and I stayed up till 4am on Jan 1 to get it done. Everyone was extremely impressed that we finished it. My husband even took a picture of me putting in the last piece. I’m so glad it’s finished, I won’t be doing a puzzle for a while. That photomosaic wore me out on puzzles.
On New Year’s Eve, we lit some fireworks…those were fun. We had several strobes that blinded everyone and several whistlers that were obnoxiously loud. The food was excellent and I may have gotten a few recipes out of it. All in all a great time, but I’m sure glad to be home.
I’ve decided to learn to crochet. My mom tried to teach me when I was little, but I couldn’t ever get the hang of it. I’ve been seeing all these blogs by ladies that knit, and I want to make some cool stuff so I picked up a book, some hooks and some yarn and have started learning.
So far I’m doing pretty good. The book I have has about 12 lessons to teach you the different stitches and a few other things you need to know. It also has 19 easy projects to get started with. One is a beautiful afghan that I’m looking forward to making when I feel more comfortable with it. For now, I’m going to start with a simple scarf and the matching hat.

Happy New Year, Rayne! Glad to see you back. I want to learn a craft too! Maybe this will be our year to give it a try, right?
