Hello from Texas

Monday, May 26th, 2003

Just popping in to say hi. I’m in Texas having fun with my family. My husband made it to Canada safely, so he is doing good as well. Tomorrow we go to San Antonio to the riverwalk and the Alamo. Then on to a water park that is nearby.

BTW: The toffee is sensational. It will be eaten very quickly. :)

Woohoo! It’s here

Friday, May 23rd, 2003

My toffee has arrived. I can’t wait to get home and open it up and try a piece. My mouth waters just thinking about it. I will defintely be taking some with me to share with my parents.

We leave before daybreak tomorrow, so I probably won’t be online very much for the next week. My parents have dialup <gasp! /> and I will be spending most of my time catching up with my family… especially my sister! :) Tata for now…catch you all at some point during the week.

Toffee Update

Wednesday, May 21st, 2003

I’ve checked the tracking on my toffee and it should arrive on Friday…Just in time for my trip. I will most likely take some with me to share with my folks, since the hubby won’t eat it. He doesn’t eat pecans! Oh the insanity! I really hope it makes it. If not, I will have to arrange for someone to pick it up (and not eat it), so it won’t be sitting on my front step for a week, melting to a nasty mush! Please everyone, cross your fingers that it arrives on time.

Birthday Suprise

Monday, May 19th, 2003

Pam sent me a book off of my wishlist as an early birthday present. It was such a nice surprise. The biggest surprise though was to learn how close we are. She literally lives across the street. The only house in our immediate vicinity that we havne’t had a chance to meet yet and what do you now…we meet online instead! Haha! It’s a small world out there, ain’t it!

Cream Cheese Chicken

Sunday, May 18th, 2003

Here is the chicken crockpot recipe that I mentioned in the last Friday Five.

4-6 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
1 bottle italian dressing
1 8oz package of cream cheese
1 can cream of chicken
1 cup chicken broth
1/4 teaspoon sage
1/4 teaspoon thyme
salt and pepper

Season chicken with salt and pepper to taste. Add chicken and italian dressing to crockpot. Cook on low 6-8 hours. Remove chicken from crockpot. Discard excess dressing. Shred chicken. Add back to crockpot. Mix rest of ingredients in separate bowl. Stir into chicken. Cook on low for another hour.

I serve it with rice or pasta. I also like it for lunch with crackers or on a bagel.

Fire Ant, Television

Tuesday, May 13th, 2003

I was bitten by a fire ant on Sunday. I now have the little white blister where I was bitten. Apparently I’m not allergic as I am fine, it just itches. I’ve been searching online and all I can find is that the area will swell then you get the blister. Beyond that I couldn’t find anything…such as how long does the blister usually last, can I pop it and put something like Neosporin on it or leave it alone and it will just go away. Does anyone know? Stacey, you’re a nurse…what’s your suggestion? Anyway…

I watched Part I of the 7th Heaven Season Finale. It was really good, but of course now I have to wait till next Monday to see what happens next. I’ve seen this show in the past but it has never been one of my regulars. I just catch it every so often. After watching last night, I think I may pick it up next season. I seem to do that often. I pick up shows after they’ve been on for a while, I get addicted them they end shortly thereafter. I’ve picked up CSI after 2 or 3 seasons, Charmed on season 5 and now 7th Heaven, which I know has been on for quite some time. Hopefully they will stick around for a while so that I have a chance to watch.

I was at a point where I barely watched any TV, except for one soap at night. Now I’m starting to watch a bunch of shows again. I saw CSI: Miami last night and Horatio is really starting to get to me. I like the show and the storylines, but the way he talks really annoys me. Can’t he ever talk like a normal person instead of trying to be so dramatic? Ugh! Thing is, it comes on after Raymond and Still Standing and I really like those, so we just naturally keep watching. Maybe something new needs to come on next season so I have an excuse not to watch it. :) LOL!

Plant Help

Monday, May 5th, 2003

Ok. I need some help. I don’t know much about plants, but we planted 2 pink oleanders about 3 weeks ago. I’ve noticed that some of the leaves have started turning yellow. I don’t know what that means…do they need more water or less. We’ve been watering them according to a sheet we got at the nursery where we bought them. I don’t want them to die…please help. At least our maple seems to be doing good and our gardenias have finally started blooming! woohoo!

In other news, I saw a car tag that said “IOU DAD”. Is it safe to guess that Dad bought the car?

The 80s on VH1

Sunday, May 4th, 2003

I don’t normally watch VH1, but today they had a series dedicated to the 80s. They showcased the major entertainment influences of each year. I saw a few early in the day, then a few in the evening. I missed ‘89, and I was so looking forward to them mentioning New Kids. But I did remember a lot of the things they mentioned for 81, 82, 87, and 88. I think those were all the ones I saw. It was great seeing all those old things again. Silver Spoons, the Coreys (Haim and Feldmen), the Wonder Years, etc. I enjoyed the show. And horrified that we actually dressed the way we did…it really was pretty bad, even though it was the coolest thing at the time. :O
