Weekend News

Monday, March 31st, 2003

We had a great time Friday at Cirque du Soleil. It was awesome. We were sitting in the third row back on one side of the stage. Because of the theme of the show, there was a lot of air acts. And they flew right over our heads. It was really cool. Yesterday we watched Maid in Manhattan. It was a cute movie, but I think I enjoyed The Wedding Planner more. We also spent most of the day watching the Travel Channel. :) It was pretty cool. They were doing a series on Family Vacations, so they talked about Disney’s Animal Kingdom and Sea World. It was great seeing the old attractions again and seeing behind the scenes. The best one was the one on Hershey, PA. Yum! I definitely want to take a vacation in that town!

Other than that we’ve been pretty lazy. I finished the book I was reading, Dating Game by Danielle Steel. While up in Atlanta on Friday we spent a lot of time at Barnes and Noble. Two stories of book! I was in heaven. I picked up some mindless reading…The Love Killers by Jackie Collins. I’ve read a lot of her books and I was feeling the need to escape to her world. So that is what I’m reading now.

I followed the link on Stacey’s blog to BlogShares and as of when I looked, my blog value was $160. Pretty cool!

Slacking

Thursday, March 27th, 2003

I have so been slacking with my site. No posts in a few days. I’ve been real busy. I’m working on a new visual basic project…I’m developing an application. I won’t say much now but if I can see it through it will be pretty cool. That plus new projects at work have kept me busy. If my free time, I’m reading or spending time with my hubby.

Tomorrow is Cirque du Soleil day! We will be in Atlanta to see the show. I can’t wait. I’m also looking forward to the huge Barnes and Noble that is nearby. Lots of books to look through. :) We also have a new trip planned. Mid-April we will be heading to FL to spend my hubby’s birthday with his family. We are also going to go spend a day at Universal Studios. I haven’t been there since I left Orlando. So that is about 9 years! It will be exciting to see what has changed and what new rides they’ve added.

Spring is in the air

Sunday, March 23rd, 2003

Today was such a beautiful day. Yesterday was as well. We spent the day out and about. I went out to get groceries and on the way back, I saw a boy riding a bike with his dad running along side him. I just had to smile at the scene. It was so nice seeing dad teaching the little boy how to ride.

We also finally got out and cleaned up the yard. Mowed the jungle and cleaned up the weeds in the small garden. It looks so nice now. We even had a little time to take the dogs to the park for a walk. It was great. The weather is so pretty, finally, after all the rain and dreary days, we had a perfect weekend.

Last night we went to see The Hunted. It looked like a fabulous movie, but the theater we were in had bad sound problems so it was really hard to hear what people were saying. So we got our money back and left. We were disappointed but, I guess we’ll see it some other time.

CMS update

Thursday, March 20th, 2003

Ok. I decided to test run pMachine. So I got it installed and started running it, then remembered what I didn’t like about it. When creating links with the buttons or trying to bold text in my entry, it doesn’t surround the highlighted text. It appends the tag to the very end of my entry. Yuck! That definitely doesn’t work for me. So pMachine is out. Plus w.bloggar doesn’t support pMachine.

I like b2, but it would involve some hacking to get the show/hide script to work. I’m not sure I’m up for that. And plus, what Shana said. I can’t import my MT Entries. That would be another plus. I may do a search and see if there is a hack for that. If I can import my entries, I may decide on using it. I’m still playing with it to see what happens. I really do like that it is done all in php, so it means there is a possibilty to do all sorts of neat things with it.

The verdict is still out on b2. Will keep you posted. :)

b2

Wednesday, March 19th, 2003

Just wondering…I’ve been looking at b2 as a possible alternative to MT. I love MT but really like the idea of not having to rebuild. Changes are done instantaneously. And I’m pretty sure that there is less disk space used since there aren’t as many files created. You only have 1 copy of your entries, not 2 like MT (1 in the db and 1 in the static files).

My only issue right now with b2 is the extended entry portion. I know you just put an HTML comment in your entry to indicate that there is more text. But that doesn’t lead to easily integrating the show/hide script. I really like this script and would like to keep it in my blog. I know when I get to a site that has extended entries, I prefer if the extended portion appeared on that page instead of getting jumped to a new page. But I just don’t see an easy way to do this using b2.

Has anyone accomplished this? I’m thinking it would be some sort of php script. It would check if that particular string was found in the text. If so, explode the text based on that string into two variables. Then somehow incorporate the javascipt into that code. It may be something that I can look into once I’m using b2.

Dumb me, I took it off of my site before I had a chance to play with it extensively. I may have to install it again and see if I can’t figure it out along with the templates. If it works, I may be switching over, even though I’ve been a happy paying MT customer for a while.

Mini

Tuesday, March 18th, 2003

Driving home today from work, I saw a mini. Yes, a mini in Alabama. I wonder how much it costs to import one of those. Oh, for those that don’t know, a mini is a teeny little car that is very popular in England.

New Read

Monday, March 17th, 2003

We went out to eat tonight, then afterwards stopped by the bookstore. I picked up Danielle Steel’s new book, Dating Game. I can’t wait to get started on it. I know I’ll finish it really quickly. Once I start one of her books, I can’t put it down.

Speaking of reading quickly. I finished Nights in Rodanthe by Nicholas Sparks in just 2 days. It was excellent and I cried near the end. His books always throw me, cause it isn’t the style of writing you’d expect from a male writer.

Photo Album

Sunday, March 16th, 2003

I installed Adobe Photoshop Album last night and was playing around with it some. I did a little more playing this morning and I am really liking it. I can organize all my pictures no matter where they are, even the ones I backed up to CD.

Elizabeth Found!

Wednesday, March 12th, 2003

I’ve been watching the live feed from MSNBC on Elizabeth Smart. It is so exciting that she’s been found today! I’m so happy for her and her family. I am looking forward to the news conference this evening. Hopefully we’ll be able to find out exactly what’s going on and to see her and her family together.

Dummy Me!

Tuesday, March 11th, 2003

I’m such a dummy! I took the entire day off today for a doctor’s appt. My doctor is an hour away and it was in the late morning. Well, I got about 20 minutes down the road and my husband reminded me to call the doctor. Usually they call the day before to remind you. Well, they didn’t call yesterday so he said I should call to double check. So anyway…here I am 20 minutes into my drive and he reminds me to call. It then hit me that I had the little appt card in my purse. So I pull over, get the card out of my purse and what does it say? My appt is on Thursday! So I had to turn around and of course I went to work. So here I am back at work today and I’ll be off Thursday for my real appt!

What a goon I am! LOL!

A Little Pampering

Friday, March 7th, 2003

Heehee. Since today was payday, I took a little bit to get pampered. I went and got my nails done. Full set of acrylic nails and an american manicure. Of course, I had to keep them short since I type so much on the computer, but they look so nice, I feel pretty. :) Even though I haven’t been in almost 2 years, my nail stylist remembered me and my sister. She even remembered that the last time she had seen my sister was the day before my wedding. That was two years ago! We went in to get our nails done and a few months later, my sister moved to Texas to go to school. How cool is that…2 years and she remembered! That felt great also! :) Now I just need to do something with my hair and I’ll feel glamorous.

See Allison, it works…go get pampered! That’s an order, missy.

VSS

Thursday, March 6th, 2003

I have spent all day trying to get Visual SourceSafe (VSS) working with Visual Basic 6. Since the documentation isn’t good and you have to dig for it…I am having to learn the program. I really need to get this working. I need to be able to secure my source code, so that I can work on changes without affecting the good code. I have so many questions that I need answered. If anyone uses this software for source control, please help me understand how to use it with VB.

Puppy Scare

Wednesday, March 5th, 2003

Our pup, Kody, gave me a scare yesterday. I got home and she was fussing. She has something in her mouth or something that she was desperately pawing at. She was eating like a crazy fog trying to get it out. She kept running to me and jumping up, like she was trying to tell me to help her. I felt so bad and was somewhat freaking cause I didn’t know what was going on.

I called the vet. They were closed. I paged the vet. He told me to talk to the emergency clinic and that it was probably a stick wedged in her teeth or something. I called the clinic and the girl explained what it could be and that if I could get her to hold still long enough I might could get it out. So when my husband got home, he held her down and I picked it out. It was wedged across the roof of her mouth. Like if she’d bit on the stick and both ends snapped making it get stuck. I felt so bad, but she was so happy when we got it out for her.

After the day I had…to come home to a dog that is clearly having problems, I was just freaking out.
