Happy New Year!

Tuesday, December 31st, 2002

I want to wish everyone a Happy New Year. I hope all your expectations and hope are granted in the coming 2003!

I plan to welcome the new year here at home with my husband and 2 girls (dogs). My dad gave us a bottle of wine, Cafe Zinfandel, it’s darker and smoother than White Zinfandel. We may decide to open that up and drink a glass.

Whatever your plans, be safe and have fun!

Book Listing

Monday, December 30th, 2002

As good a place as any to keep track of this sort of thing. Here is a list of books by Michael Malone…writer for One Life to Live, so that I can refer back to it. I’d like to eventually read them all.

  • Dingley Falls
  • First Lady
  • Foolscap: Or, the Stages of Love
  • Handling Sin
  • Red Clay, Blue Cadillac: Stories of 12 Southern Women
  • The Delectable Mountains: Or, Entertaining Strangers
  • The Last Noel
  • Time’s Witness
  • Uncivil Seasons

Permission woes

Monday, December 30th, 2002

I’m having some problems with my site. Apparently when I was setting up MT on my new domain, I messed up some things. I tried to use a cgiwrapper, so in the mt.cfg, I turned on the umask settings. I couldn’t get everything to work right so I moved it back to the regular cgi-bin. Well, when I moved back, I forgot to turn off the umask settings so when MT created all of my files and when I uploaded the images, they got owned by MT/webserver. I now cannot rename, delete or change permissions on them. It is so frustrating! My host has changed the permissions to 755 on some of the files, but I still cannot delete or rename them.

This is really bad. If I cannot delete anything, how do I maintain it. I can’t clean up junk on my server and it will eventually get more and more cluttered. Not good. I just don’t know what to do since MT doesn’t have a built in file manager. If it did, I bet I could go in via it and change permissions. Does anyone have any ideas how I can fix this problem? I’d rather not have to back up and have my host delete everything, then upload it back manually, although that may do the trick.

And yes, I’ve turned off umask for future posts and uploads.

The Dogs

Sunday, December 29th, 2002

The dogs are doing fine. Sadie is definitely an alpha female. She is doing everything she can to show Kody that she is the one in charge. I’m not sure yet, which will win the competition, but they are getting along pretty well. They don’t fight for food and they share the beds. As I type this, they are sleeping together on the same bed. It is so cute. Sadie is still somewhat nasty if Kody gets too much attention but she is getting much better about it. And she is slowly leaving Kody alone; and not bothering her too much. I think after a few weeks, they will get along just fine.

Dakota

Friday, December 27th, 2002

Yep. Dakota (Kody) is the name of our new puppy. She is 6-7 months old and she is a german shephard/australian shephard mix. She has the size of the australian shephard, but the look of the german shephard. Very cute. I just hope Sadie isn’t too rough with her. I think she will be easier to train than Sadie was. She is so sweet, but of course she hasn’t been at home yet. She is at the vet getting her checkup and getting a bath. At least she’s been spayed, so we don’t have to worry about that. As soon as I get some good pictures of her, I’ll add them to the photolog.

Merry Christmas!

Thursday, December 26th, 2002

Merry Christmas everyone! We did manage to get out to Texas and spent a fabulous holiday with my family. It was a surprise. My husband told me the night before we left (23rd). When we showed up Christmas Eve, my mom was so surprised (she didn’t know either), she started crying. It was so great! I can’t wait to see them again.

In other news, I’ve totally gotten hooked on Sims. I bought it when it first came out and it didn’t interest me any. Now though, I love it. I created my own character and she is doing pretty good.

Movie and More

Saturday, December 21st, 2002

Last night we rented and watched The Sum of All Fears. Excellent movie. Ben is a hottie so it was fun to watch. I love those type of action movies as well. It was also interesting watching the character of Jack Ryan from the beginning. My husband and I were wondering where he got his fear of flying. In this movie he didn’t seem to mind, but after the terrible helicopter crash he experienced, I wonder if that is what caused it. If anyone has seen some of the movies, does he say in any of them what caused his fear of flying…was it the crash from The Sum of All Fears?

I guess pretty soon, I’ll have to think about a new design since the holidays will be over with. I’m thinking about going with blues and grays for winter with some sort of snow graphic.

Busy

Friday, December 20th, 2002

I guess the holidays are keeping everyone busy, as they should. I’ve tried to keep up with my blog and reading everyone else’s, but it hasn’t been too hard. Not to many recent entries for anyone. It’s good. It means we actually have lives beyond our website. Sometimes I wonder. ;)

Took half a day off today since there was hardly anyone at work. Spent it mostly napping. I finished reading The Rescue and have picked back up with Odd Girl Out. I’m looking forward to it. Might rent a movie tonight, not sure yet.

Saddened

Thursday, December 19th, 2002

Not sure if we are going anywhere this year for Christmas and I’m getting sad at the thought of not spending it with my family. Sure, I’ll be with my husband, but I really wanted to go. I guess this year will be as dull as last year. As the days grow closer, I get more sad at knowing Christmas day will be somewhat lonely. He isn’t big on the holiday, who knows why, so it won’t be a special day in my house…it will most likely be like any other day, except we don’t have to work.

Mall Tycoon

Wednesday, December 18th, 2002

I picked up a new game: Mall Tycoon today. It is such a fun game. Similar to Roller Coaster Tycoon but you build and manage a mall. Since I can’t run RCT on WinXP, I opted for this game. I love it! It is so fun! I think I may become addicted. :P
