Apparently lightning hit over the weekend sometime during the night and it fried my husband’s computer. The monitor was damaged, as well as parts of the computer. Luckily his hard drive is still in tact so he still has all of his files.
So now I’m having to share my computer with him, because we can’t afford to replace parts or get him a new computer. It sucks but oh well…he doesn’t spend nearly as much time on the computer as he used to so he won’t be hogging it as much as would have before.
Maybe someday, after the credit cards are paid off, we can afford to get him his own again.

I finished The Nanny Diaries last night. It was great! Although it got to the point I was getting very mad at Mrs. X for her behavior towards Nanny. Total disrespect and what a snob!. It really is sad that some people actually do this sort of thing…pawn their children off on someone else so they can “play.” It’s shameful really and I just wanted her to go off on the woman. Well, anyway…I started Filthy Rich and so far it’s pretty good. I haven’t gotten too far into yet, so the fun is just beginning for poor Marcy, dumped by her boyfriend for incorrectly answering the million $ question on national television. I have a feeling she wins out in the end and her now-ex doesn’t, but I’m reading.

We just returned from Home Depot where we bought, two bushes and a small spidery plant for our front yard. We are going to start cleaning up tomorrow. We’ve made plans for today and we want to make sure we have enough time to do it all, so we plan to work in the yard tomorrow. I’m actually looking forward to it, even though it will be very hot! I’m not a big yard work person, and I am the worst black thumb. I can’t keep any plants going so when I get a bug, I have to jump at it. Tomorrow we clean up the front yard and put better greenery out there. I think it will look so nice when we are done. We decided to take pictures so we can see the before and after of our efforts. We also have a huge cypress tree in our front yard, literally against the house, so we have to get it out of there. It has just gotten way to big for where it is located. If it were in the yard and not against the house it wouldn’t be so bad, but it’ll be weird when it goes, since we won’t have anything big to cover that window anymore, till whatever bushes we put there start taking over. We’ve talked over so many times what we want to do to the front. At least now we are getting started and doing something to clean it up.

I hate bugs…especially roaches. Well, we are being invaded by them as well as those little sugar ants! Yuck! I plan to call Terminix today and have them come out and spray.
It’s really weird but the only place I’m finding the ants so far is in the dishwasher. They are taking it over!
Anyway, I’ve been meaning to comment on this for a while now, but have just forgotten. I do not know what is up with TPTB’s choice of home for Hope and Bo Brady. I’m sorry but the exterior does not lead to the interior. There is no way that the house they show the exterior of could resemble the one they actually live in. The one they live in is so much smaller. If it was the house (in exterior), I think the connection from the living room to the kitchen would be greater. And the kitchen would be much larger and the backyard would be more than a little chunk of patio. Just my opinion on the whole thing.

I thought Fanta was a thing of the past…just like RC Cola and Tab, but apparently it’s all the rave in Europe and is trying to make a comeback in the USA. Wanta Fanta?

Well, the project that I thought would be completed this week, has been post-poned till next week. Major changes to our application and the rollout was to happen this week. My boss has decided to bump it back to next Tuesday so I will be extremely busy then.
This week, my major project is setting up a new computer as a replacement for one of our employees. So I get to spend the day installing a bunch of stuff. Fun!
But I received my book from gen, The Hottest State by Ethan Hawke. I just started The Nanny Diaries so I plan to read this one afterwards.

Well, I tried really hard, but just couldn’t get into the book I was ready, so I’ve put it down for now and started The Woman Next Door that I got from Sue-Ellen. It hooked me from the very start and I couldn’t put it down. It was fabulous. I was rooting for Amanda and Graham. Was sure it wasn’t a neighbor that had fathered Gretchen’s baby and wondering if Karen would totally snap.
This book kept me so riveted that I couldn’t stop reading. And I’ve just finished it, satified with the way it ended. I’ve read so many Barbara Delinsky books in the past and have loved every one. It’s been a while that I’ve read one of hers and I can say this was a welcome. I only look forward to reading more of her work. Thanks again, Sue-Ellen….this one was fabulous!
So I’ve put my bookmark in the first page of The Nanny Diaries and plan to start it tomorrow. For now, I’m off to sleep. Tomorrow starts a busy week at work!
I hate not finishing a book and hope to get back to this other one maybe after I’ve read The Woman Next Door. That one hooked me as soon as I read page one. Those are the kind of books I love reading.
Oh yeah I almost forgot to mention. I went to the trade book store in town (where you turn in your books and get credit to get more). I had about $30 in credit and decided to use some. I got Just Friends and ended up not having to pay anything for it. Using my credit it came out to $.39. I didn’t have any cash on me and had planned on writing a check for what I thought would be about 2-3 dollars. So when the lady said it was $.39 I was like, “Oh no, I don’t have that.” The lady behind me was kind enough to give me the change and I ended up getting the book for free. And I still have like $26 or $27 left in credit for next time. Isn’t that so cool!

I’ve been browsing many blogs lately. Of course I have to stop at the “About Me” page of each site. I’m finding that more and more people work from home!
My question is how do you do this? What I mean is how do you get the ‘work from home’ job? I would love to be able to work from home and in my line of work, it would be a piece of cake. I’m a programmer, and can just as easily type in code from home as from an office. I wouldn’t mind doing web design/development either. I feel I’m pretty knowledgeable about the web stuff…probably more so than the programming.
I just don’t seem to be as lucky in that area, I guess. My current job could just as easily be done from home and my boss knows it. The problem is he has no say in the matter, his higher ups do (for example the state governor). So I’m stuck coming in to an office 8:30-5:30 everyday when I could do the same thing from the convenience of my home.
Is there anyone out there willing to give me a job where I can work from home, but also get the pay (or better) that I’m making now along with the excellent benefits?
Or is that the compromise of working from home, not as good pay and not as good benefits? I’m very interested, because when the time comes for us to plan for a family, I’d like to work from home so I can be with my child and not dump him/her off at daycare for 10 hours a day.
Any advice on how to go about this will be extremely helpful.

Researching the best prices for computer parts is never fun, especially when you are on a strict budget. I’ve managed to get everything I need at the right price. Let’s hope it all runs properly!
This is for an upgrade to mom’s computer. Dad has gotten the notion that he needs a cd burner so he can burn cds. I have no idea what he plans to burn since he doesn’t spend that much time on the computer as it is, but it’s his money and computer.
Since he got a 6-disc changer in his truck, he’s been doing more cd listening so maybe it’s a start. And with his coming retirement (hopefully within the next 6 months), he may have some more free time to “play”.
So I’m souping up his computer…making myself and my husband jealous because we can’t afford to upgrade our computers at the moment and are only running Duron 800MHz. Of course for what we do, it’s plenty right now, but it was a treat working on my sister’s Duron 1.7 GHz machine. That sucker was fast! Maybe someday.

The agency I work for deals with victims of violent crime. I just finished a training session of how to deal with these victims, how to help them, how to talk to them and minimize teh amount of stress related to this type of work.
I personally don’t deal directly with the victims. All I do is the computer programming, but it was a very interesting session on understanding where they are coming from and how to handle it in and out of the workplace.
I admire our specialists that do have to deal with such tramatized people day in day out all day long. It can be very stressful. No wonder we have such a high turnover. It takes a certain kind of person to do that kind of work for any significant length fo time.
I think I’ll stick with programming. Yeah, computers are stressful, but nothing compared to what my co-workers deal with.

Today has been a same ol Sunday kind of day. Cleaning the kitchen. Washing clothes, cleaning the floor. Not much going on today…maybe we’ll watch a movie or I’ll sit outside later (when it isn’t so hot) and read my book.
Went to the bookstore today and left disappointed. Why? Because I can’t really afford a book and there were two that I would’ve like to buy. Oh well. I’ve got 4 in the mail and about a dozen on my bookshelf that haven’t been read yet. I guess I better get out there and read the one I’m currently on so I can get cracking on the others!
Took the dog for a walk around the neighborhood. That was not the smartest thing to do. Apparently our neighborhood has a large population of big dogs (German Shepard size). Taking Sadie for a short walk stirred them all up. We started a barking frenzy. We walked by one house where the owners were outside talking and they started laughing as all the dogs started barking when we walked by.
We may not be taking her for a walk in this area anytime soon.
